Bitches. You know them. Weak, annoying people who complain. People who have grudges. People who batter your ear endlessly about their problems. Nearly all the commenters on any blog. And you.
Wait, what? “I wanted to hear about those other people.” No, this is for you.
Any time you complain instead of solving the problem you are being a bitch. That whiny brat who everyone ignores, wishes would shut up, and treats with a total lack of respect. If you throw a tantrum, complain, talk about instead of to someone, and fail to act instead of running your mouth, you are being — yes, a bitch. Bitches get no respect. They get nothing done. They annoy everyone and only get in the way. So why do they, I mean you, do it?
Because it’s easier then solving the problem. Because it feels good, if only for a moment. Because it relieves the tension of doing nothing. It feels like you’re Doing Something when in reality you’re doing nothing. In fact, it’s worse than doing nothing. An unresolved problem creates tension. Tension which must be relieved. But if you choose any method other than actually addressing the problem, you trick your brain into thinking something has been done when in reality nothing has been. There’s no satisfactory way of resolving this, other than to prevent it. Deal with the problem as it comes up. Right then. Otherwise you will carry those feelings with you. Feelings of defeat, shame, helplessness, victimhood. Over time they will destroy you. And you will seek to relieve the pain of that injury to your sense of self by “blowing off steam”. Venting. Sending an email. Drunk dialing. Telling everyone at the bar — or on Twitter — all about it.
That’s what bitches do. Don’t do that. Be a person who people respect. Solve the problem if you can. Or at least don’t make it everyone else’s problem. Don’t be a bitch.
